PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and
Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal
emulator.
PuTTY Tray is an improved version of PuTTY (Win32). It features some cosmetic
changes, and a number of addons to make it more useful and much more fun to use.
Features
- New default icon
- Minimizing to the system tray (on CTRL + minimize, always or directly on startup)
- (Tray) icon customizable
- Blinks tray icon when a bell signal is received
- Configurable window transparency
- URL hyperlinking
- Portability: optionally stores session configuration in files (for example: on a USB drive) like portaPuTTY
- Easy access to the 'always on top' setting (in the system menu)
- Reconnects when your PC wakes up from stand-by
- Attempts to reconnect when the connection fails
Update: 0.60 (r3)
- New: Load sessions from file using the command line with -loadfile or -file [sessionname]
- New: Added 'always on top' to the system menu
- New: Automatically selects 'sessions from file' when the registry does not contain any sessions
- New: Added option 'reconnect on connection failure'
- New: Default font set to 'Consolas' when using Windows Vista
- Fixed: URL hyperlink bug - preferred browser settings ignored in Windows Vista (thanks Jesper Svennevid)
- Fixed: With 'show tray icon: always' enabled: clicking the tray icon will minimize the PuTTY window if it is open.
Note
- The 'reconnect on connection failure' option is experimental, so please mail me if you find a bug

Authors
PuTTY Tray is a combination of the best SSH client and some of the best patches
written for it.
It started out as a simple trayicon patch, created after I
read that this feature
would never make it into the 'standard' PuTTY.
After a while I started merging it with other patches, to create the ultimate PuTTY. Because I could never have created PuTTY Tray as it is today without these patches, I would like to thank:
- Everaldo, for making the beautiful Crystal SVG icon set from which I derived the PuTTY Tray icon
- Samuli Gröhn, for making the NuTTY hyperlink patch
- Jakub Kotrla because he invented the PuTTY File patch
- warp13.co.uk, for the reconnect patch
- dwalin.ru, for parts of the TuTTY session icon code
- All the people who are sending me emails with great suggestions
Please note:
If this software does not work as expected, eats your PC or kills your cat,
you should know that it comes without warranty of any kind. You install it at your own risk.
Also, please do not bother any of the people mentioned above with questions about PuTTY Tray. If it
does not work, let me know, or try
the original version.
Source
PuTTY Tray patch:
For all of you who have been waiting for the source: the new 0.60 (r3) diff is available now. I advise you to read every line twice, then make it better and send to code back to me
.
Please note:
I get a lot of email about the diff not working. You should apply it only to the 0.60 release source, then add the extra .c and .h files to the Visual Studio project.
You also need to set up the regex stuff for the hyperlink patch.
I recently got a nice email from Edward Z. Yang. He told me how he got the diff working: read here.
Icon and dialog resources are NOT included in the diff. If you want to use the icon, rip it from my executable or use the one available in SVG format.
You can find it below.
Also, please stop mailing me about releasing the entire Visual Studio project, you cannot have it. The diff is all you need.
If you happen to find a bug or if you think you can clean up the patched code (lots of it is taken from other patches and the result isn't always nice code...), please feel free to submit your patch to the e-mail address you can find below.
The icon:
I created the high color icon using the Crystal SVG files found in
the KDE repository. It's a mixture of 2 existing icons, and you all know the result:
